APVMA's recommendation on Arsenic treated timber
Australian Pesticides & Veterinary Medicines Authority has recommended that arsenic timber treatment products not be used in future for children's play equipment, picnic tables, decking and handrails. More details available at http://www.apvma.gov.au.

Mold becomes an industry unto itself
Insurers' payments for mold claims more than doubled in 2002, compared with the $1.4 billion paid out in 2001, and companies are flooding the market with products to combat and clean up the hazard. Building managers and construction executives are moving faster on mold concerns, making sure leaks are taken care of quickly and ensuring that materials stay dry during the building process to curb the potential for future problems. Proposals on expansion of Russian-US Cooperation in the development of forest utilization and management
Possessing almost a quarter of the world's forest, Russia's forest potential is utilized in an extremely inefficient way. Its export revenues of $4.3 billion could be $140 billion annually. Natural Polymers for Wood Protection (Ph.D. research projects sponsored by Norwegian Research Council)
This research project is focussing on two important abundant natural polymers in the world : chitin and tall oils. The project duration is 2002-2005 and performed at the Norwegian Forest Research Institute. More information available at http://www.wood.uni-goettingen.de.

IRG Compendium–update
Holders of IRG Compendium (1969-2002) will receive an updated version free of charge. Update will contain new, more user-friendly search engine, all documents issued in 2003 as well as about 180 re-scanned old documents.

IRG Statutes–revised
The Statutes are subject to revision and a draft will be circulated to the membership by the end of February.

Invoice for 2004
The invoice for 2004 has been forwarded to all members and sponsors recently. Please pay as soon as possible to avoid reminders! Members 58 years of age or older (i.e. born in 1946 or earlier) are welcome to pre-pay a life-long membership fee of 5,000 SEK. Ten years' of consecutive, fully paid-up membership will be required to qualify. Members interested in pre-paying the membership this way are asked to contact the Secretariat for a special invoice.
