Arnica extract from Berkem Biosolutions® is a 100% plant-based ingredient, rich in active molecules, particularly polyphenols, specially adapted to the needs and challenges of termite protection. The efficacy performance of a bio-based termiticide product containing Arnica extract from Berkem Biosolutions® had been evaluated both in soil treatment and in wood protection treatment against native and Formosan subterranean termites in Louisiana, US. The wood protection assessment was performed in accordance with the laboratory American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) Standard, AWPA E1-17 choice and no-choice test using Formosan subterranean termite (Coptotermes formosanus). The soil treatment assessment was conducted at Lee Forest native subterranean termite location and New Orleans Formosan subterranean termite location following SOP 25-01 protocol (Ground Board Test). The test included the termiticide ground treatment and one untreated pine control in 17x17 in. area cleared of debris, roots, and rocks. A 2x6x6 in. piece of untreated pine board was placed in the center of the soil and was held it in place with a brick on top of the wood. Wood was evaluated for termite damage annually using a simple scale. The presence or absence of live termites infesting test blocks was also noted. Damage data were collected. The results of both laboratory and field assessments concluded that the bio-based product had complete resistance to termite attack in both applications.
