Current situation of wood preservation industry, development of standard and research on wood preservation in China are briefly reviewed in this paper. About 0.55-0.65 million m3 of wood is treated in China annually, among which, the amount of creosote treated timber goes down since crossties and electricity poles are replaced by cement in the past decade. Boron is mainly used for treating rubberwood and timber for ancient building as interior usage, which accounts for the largest portion of treated wood. CCA and ACQ are used for treating various products such as fence, decking, poles, horticultural components, agricultural posts etc., while ACQ was just first used in this industry 3 years ago. With the restriction of CCA, the amount of ACQ treated wood increases rapidly, and it will continue increasing and CCA will go down in the near future in China. Several national evaluation standard related to wood preservation are listed in the paper. National industrial standard of “wood preservatives” and “use category and specification for the treated wood” are near published, and some details on the above 2 standard such as the active ingredients and ratios of waterborne preservatives and use category as well as specification are briefly described. Research and achievements on wood preservation and suggestions for the further development of industry are also reviewed.
