Japanese traditional wooden building construction project in Bangkok - Part 1 Project outline, building implementation and effects

The purpose of this project is to build new ways to utilize wooden resources in Japan. Japan's forestry industry is in decline despite its abundant forest resources due to a lack of successors and other reasons. Meanwhile, in Southeast Asian countries, reinforced concrete houses, which are not suited to the climate, are on the rise due to a lack of wood and technology. To solve these problems in both countries, we piloted the supply of quality wooden buildings adapted to the social/climatic conditions of Southeast Asia, utilizing Japan's abundant forest resources and superior building technology. To facilitate local construction of the buildings, pre-cut lumber was exported to Bangkok, Thailand, after being pre-cut in Japan. On site, the building was completed without serious problems, with local carpenters performing the construction under the guidance of Japanese engineers. During the planning of the building, an environmental control survey was conducted to adapt the building to the climate and climate of Southeast Asia, as well as experiments with termite control measures. In this project, we were able to construct a building incorporating traditional Japanese architectural styles in Bangkok, Thailand, utilizing Japanese timber resources. Two years after its completion, the building is still being actively used.
