The risk assessment process. Point of view of a biocide manufacturer [Évaluation du risque. Point de vue d'un fabricant de biocide]
1990 - IRG/WP 3568
Risk assessment is an inherent part of our everyday lives. The risk assessment equation combines Hazards and Exposure. For the Wood Preservation Industry, the hazards may be characterised by the toxicity a the ecotoxicity of chemicals and the exposure by the identification of exposed people, of the exposure routes and exposure frequency. To quantify the exposure, good co-operation is required betw...

An evaluation of anti-apstain chemicals in Queensland, Australia
1986 - IRG/WP 3374
Five formulations were evaluated for potential use as antisapstain chemicals. Tolcide FSM (0.01, 0.02, 0.04%), Koppers N.P.-1 (0.70, 0.35, 0.25%), Kathon WT (0.10, 0.25, 0.40%) and Sinesto B (2.5, 5.0 and 7.5%) offer potential as antisapstain treatments. An incorrect stock of Busan 1009 was used resulting in unacceptable results....

Microbial tolerance and biodetoxification of organic and organometallic biocides
1990 - IRG/WP 1464
Ten organic and organometallic biocides were assessed for toxicity towards a range of wood decay and spoilage fungi. Minimum inhibitory concentrations indicated selective toxicity of biocides towards particular fungal types. Certain species of fungi demonstrated tolerance to a range of biocides. Further tests using the biocides in soil and wood enrichment cultures resulted in isolation of highly t...
