Performance of treated spruce in Canadian field test sites
1989 - IRG/WP 3506
Spruce material under test in Canadian field test sites is performing better than anticipated. From the comparison of the performance of spruce treated with various preservatives, it appears that penetration may be far more important on durability performance than the preservative itself or the retention of preservatives in the wood. However, there is still insufficient data on the influence of pe...

The performance of glue laminated railway ties after 40 years of service in the main line track
1989 - IRG/WP 2325
Two series of horizontally glue laminated ties made of a softwood body and topped with a hardwood lamination were creosoted and installed in 1947 in a tangent and a curved main line track. The tests are now 40 years old and the excellent condition of the ties of these two series suggest that a service life of 50-60 years can be expected....

Isolation and identification of non-decay fungi affecting the performance of alkylammonium compounds
1993 - IRG/WP 93-10020
The isolation of DDAC tolerant fungi was carried out on lumber treated with a range of antisapstain chemicals containing DDAC as one of their active ingredients. The tolerant fungi were selected by using malt media spiked with DDAC (100 and 2500 ppm). Isolations were tentatively identified into a range of fungi commonly found associated with wood deterioration (i.e. Penicillium sp. and Trichoderma...

Performance of water-borne pressure treated fence posts - A practical application of the new Canadian field test data base
1988 - IRG/WP 2305
50 years of test plot data acquisition have been recently set up as a computerized database. The new database which contains information on the service life of a great number of non durable Eastern Canadian wood species treated with various preservatives and many application processes is presented. As an example for its use, a summary of the performance of fence posts treated with waterborne prese...

Permatek IM 30 as a termiticide treatment for veneer-based wood products
2003 - IRG/WP 03-30325
Permatek IM 30 is a termiticide designed for incorporation into wood products during manufacture. Whereas existing approved products in Australia are based predominantly on synthetic pyrethroids carried in solvents, Permatek IM 30 is based on imidacloprid, a neonicotinoid insecticide. The formulation has very low mammalian toxicity, is free of VOCs, and has been successfully tested as a glueline ...
